The first image shows a 'peloric' flower with expanded lateral sepals. The second image shows the usual narrow sepals.

The term peloric refers to a type of mutation that caused the lateral sepals to expand and take on the characteristics of the other floral parts.

Peloric mutations can also make the labellum more like the petals or vice-versa. Aaron found some great examples earlier in the season (see sightings 4346092 and 4347346).
