Hi tpreston, very interesting ant but I can't see it well enough to tell what it is. I have put it in the Ponerinae, a subfamily of the Formicidae, and it could be the genus Hypoponera, but can't be sure. Did you find it under a log or rock? Cheers, Jon

Thanks for all your IDs. Sorry my phone camera isn't quite adequate enough to get the detail you need, but I just cant let these little beauties go unphotographed as ants are so often overlooked and under-represented on Canberra Nature Map.
