Hi Tim and Alison, this ant is very similar to Crematogaster in head and abdomen (gaster) shape, but a close look turns it into Technomyrmex. The clues are that Crematogaster doesn't often form big groups of ants like this to attack insects (they are more commonly seen on trees looking for honeydew), the uniform dark colour would be unusual in Crematogaster and there is no sign of spines on the rear part of the main body, which you would expect on Crematogaster. There are a few other sightings on Technomyrmex on CNM for comparison. Cheers, Jon
