I'd like to know the species as there is also a lot in HGW - its strange - it looks a bit like small crumbweed which is a native, except that it is tall

Probably Chenpodium album the same as https://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/4206396. It is an annual, now dying off.
