I do not know what this is but am not sure it is in the family Polygonaceae at all. If you cannot get a photo, I would like some field notes about whether the leaves have a sheath at the base, and if the sheath has a leafy outgrowth. The line drawing in https://apps.lucidcentral.org/plants_se_nsw/text/entities/persicaria_prostrata.htm shows what I mean.
