Eye-patterned Gum Hoppers are brown in colour. The frons is greenish-brown. Abdomen is mostly black. All legs are brown. Forewings are reddish-brown with two black spots near the wing tip. Each black spot encloses with either two or three tiny white dots. The fore-wing tip margin is even in darker brown colour. Hind wings are smoky dark colour.
Green Face Gum Hoppers are brown in colour. On the head there is the large and flat frons which is yellowish green to bright green. All legs are brown with three black spines on hind legs. Forewings are brown with white dotted marks. There are five dark blue spots along the outer edge of forewings, three on the fore border and two at the tip with the third smaller than the others. There are also a row of short parallel cross-veins along the fore border. Hind-wings are blackish in colour and paler near the wing base.
John, I can't decide on this one. Further complicating the distinction between species is the evident sexual dimorphism, see http://www1.dpi.nsw.gov.au/keys/fulgor/eurybrachidae/platybra.htm . An upcoming (hopefully) taxonomic revision mentioned there might help resolve it. Kim.
