Great photo Ryu. I have downloaded the original photo, cropped it and added it back to aid in identification.

Probably not M. nigriceps, whose black head contrasts more strongly with an orange thorax. Ryu, it looks like the ant was active at night, is this true? If so it supports an ID as M. pyriformis which is a nocturnal forager. M. forficata is similarly coloured.

Thanks Kim. Yes this was taken approx 1.5hours after last light (taken at 8:10pm) as we were returning from our spotlight walk.
