Large patches under trees. Shows attack by introduced weevils.

The photo of the leaf shows stem boring weevils at work, they were first released to control Scotch and Illyrian thistle in 1993, they weaken the plant and reduce seed production rather than killing it outright. the beetle larvae do most of the damage
