Field day walk & talk on Spiders at Black Mountain, 7 September

Posted by MichaelBedingfield

You are invited to come along and listen to and learn from our spider experts. They will take you on a guided walk at Black Mountain Nature Reserve, introducing you to some of the mysteries of spiders’ living habits. They will explain how to best photograph spiders for easy identification. There is also a possibility (but never a guarantee) of seeing newly active adult peacock spiders (or most probably juveniles).

Your hosts will be spider experts Stuart Harris, Emma Collins and Yumi Callaway. The event will be limited to 10 extra people, starting at 10.00 am on Saturday 7 September.

You will meet at the entrance to Black Mountain NR off Caswell Drive (entry when heading south only and indicate well in advance when the turn sign is visible).

It will be for approximately 2 hours duration. Bring water bottle, sturdy shoes and hat, etc.

RSVP is essential. Send a message to Stuart. Click on the Message button at the following address:-

Hi Folks!

Sorry to inform but the response to this little spider gig has been so strong the books are now closed!
We ideally limited the participants to a number of 10-15 and have reached 15. We hope to make minimal impact on the habitat we are exploring so we hope you understand us limiting attendance.
Many thanks to those who have responded so quickly.

Regards
Stuart Harris (Emma and Yumi)

Did anyone catch Yumi Calloway doing a brilliant interview on ABC Canberra today about the upcoming spider walk? The response to this walk has been amazing, booked out within hours in fact, and somehow the ABC got a sniff of it and rang me as I was preparing to go to work today. I couldn't do the time slot they offered and rushed for time I ran it past Yumi (who had only recently confessed to me that she was apprehensive about talking to groups of people). To her absolute credit, and with only a few tips, Yumi arranged the interview and then nailed it! If you go to the ABC Canberra site on link following,

https://www.abc.net.au/listen/programs/canberra-afternoons/afternoons/104294216

click play on the Alice Mathews afternoon show, then go to the 1:11:00 mark, you will hear the 6.5 minute interview (and promotion of CNM) in Yumi's delightful, refreshing tone. Yumi and Emma are also doing a fair bit of work behind the scenes to organise this walk so kudos again, and we hope the weather stays reasonable for what should be a really enjoyable outing.

Thanks very much for your encouragement and advice Stuart @Harrisi, the success wouldn't be the same without the work you and @EmmaCollins have done! And special thanks to @MichaelBedingfield for the support in getting the word out!

Looking forward to meeting everyone soon :)
