Eucalyptus leaf beetle survey

Leaf beetle larvae survey call for help

I am conducting a survey to match beetle larvae to the adult beetle. I have successfully raised six species but need help in collecting larvae from areas to which I don’t have easy access. I’m particularly interested in Eucalyptus beetles and the darker larvae I’ve seen posted on CNM. If members are able to collect specimens I’m happy to collect them from you to raise to the beetle stage.

If you have specimens to be collected you can email me at apm56@optusnet.com.au to arrange collection.

If possible, please photograph the larvae in the field first so that we know the location.

It would be great if we could clarify some of the unknown larvae.

Thanks

Alison Milton

Hi Alison, I’ll start submitting some leaf beetle larvae sightings from now on (I normally just focus on the beetles). If there are any you are interested in let me know and I’ll try to collect them. Perhaps you could reference a few sightings as examples of the darker larvae you are particularly interested in.

Hi Alison, I just posted a pic of what I think are leaf beetle larvae. I can collect these guys if you want me to but I imagine you know what species they are?

Hi Alison, have you been in touch with any other researchers who have bred leaf beetles? Martin Lagerwey (https://www.inaturalist.org/people/martinlagerwey), Chris Reid (chris.reid@austmus.gov.au; https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Chris-Reid-6), and Gunter Maywald (https://www.inaturalist.org/users/5881499) are good contacts.
