Emus in the ACT!

Hi NatureMaprs!

Below is a quick message from ACT Parks and Conservation Service:

We are seeking a more detailed understanding of the ACT emu population in order to inform future conservation options. We need your help! Emus are an important part of our ecosystem and play an important part in ecosystem restoration and function. Please keep an eye out for Emus in the ACT and record your sightings on Canberra NatureMapr. Extra notes about quantity, life stage (adult, juvenile, chicks, eggs) breeding, feeding and other behaviour would be most useful for us to understand this special species.

Also if you see emus and are unable to get a photo and load to NatureMapr, please let us know at ENVNNP.ENVNNP@act.gov.au

Have a great Friday

Lewis

We heard from the Minister last night there is a proposal to introduce Emus to Naas - Wow! Maybe Koala's next and then Lace Monitors?

Maybe they could also introduce Eastern Grey Kangaroos, Wallabies and Euros into our Nature Reserves as they also are an important part of the ecosystem!

We have Eastern Grey Kangaroos, wallabies and even lately the odd wombat but Euros, plus the above, would indeed be a bonus for the Aranda Bushland/Black Mountain and Pinnacle reserves – but better connections between them are required.

I've just added my emu sighting at Cotter Dam from Aug 2014.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have more emus around - a dream come true from my perspective
