User's notes

Approximately 20 of these ants were sighted on the tree but there was no obvious trail of ants back to a nest.

Hi Jon. I think the ants were attracted to sap leaking from the tree bark. At the top of the second image there is a dark patch on the bark which had sap leaking from it, and in the final image the bark around the ants is clearly wet. These are just a few images taken from a larger sequence of images. Other images in the sequence show the ants attending to the dark patches and wet patches of bark.
