Author's notes

Saw just off the track thought it was a large piece of quartz. On closer inspection it clearly wasn't! Very visiable from a distance it was about the size of a football.

This has fallen from a nearby tree and your photo shows what would be the underside if this was still attached to the tree. As usual with most sightings of this fungus, you see the results of insect chewing and boring.
