Aderidae (Aderid beetles)
Aderids are small beetles resembling Anthicidae. They are usually 1.5-3.5 mm long, with the elytra more or less parallel-sided, the prothorax rounded, and the eyes large. The upper surface is clothed with fine hairs. They are often coloured yellow or red to dark brown or black, with patterns of bands or stripes.
Aderids are usually seen on foliage; larvae have been collected in rotten wood, under bark or in leaf litter.
Use of the common name of 'Ant-like leaf beetles' for Aderidae is misleading, as they are unrelated to the better-known 'Leaf beetles' of family Chrysomelidae.
