@RogerF thanks so much Roger. I might add that Boris was tentative with his suggestion of L. discoidalis too (he added a “me thinks” in the comment area). We now have quite a few sightings so rather than ungroup them again, I’ve changed the taxon to “Lamprolina (Genus) CNM 01 (L. discoidalis or To Be Classified)” so they can stay together until more identified photos become available online 😊

When I first saw this beetle with you at your father's property, I sent pictures to Chris Reid but he was reluctant to go beyond Lamprolima sp. so I am quite happy with the suggestion of L discoidalis with a Bursaria as a host plant. I should add that I am not a taxonomist but can often tell when something is different from the usual suspects.

@LisaH thats fine chickadee. With photos it’s often a case of most-suitable key characteristics matching a known taxon at the time & as new information arises then we can amend accordingly. I mentioned on one of your other sightings that I was hesitant to bring them to species-level but I took some time investigating these ones as they have individual pronotal dots rather than joined (discoid shape) but the shape and placement look good for L. discoidalis. The decider for me was Boris Buche on iNat. He is a Curator who sometimes liaises with Entomologist Martin Lagerway & he has verified these exact markings on an iNat observation as the closest fit for this point in time. Please keep me posted if you find out any different when your specimen has been studied further. If @RogerF doesnt agree with Lamprolina discoidalis, I’m more than happy to setup a “Lamprolina (To Be Classified)” taxon and move these ones and others the same across to be classified at a later date when we know more. PS. You mentioned host plant on Bursaria & it is a known host plant of Lamprolina sp.😊💚
