Tiphiidae (family) (Unidentified Smooth flower wasp)
"The Tiphiidae (also known as tiphiid wasps, flower wasps, or tiphiid flower wasps) are a family of large, solitary wasps whose larvae are parasitoids of various beetle larvae, especially those in the superfamily Scarabaeoidea. Until recently, this family contained several additional subfamilies, but multiple studies have independently confirmed that these comprise a separate lineage, and are now classified in the family Thynnidae.
The family has five extant subfamilies, which were previously placed in Tiphiidae before it was found to be non-monophyletic.[1] Thynnidae genera are classified as follows: Subfamily Anthoboscinae, Subfamily Diamminae, Subfamily Myzininae & Subfamily Thynninae" (& Subfamily Methochinae which is not found in Australia).
NOTE: Thynnidae/Tiphiidae Families are currently undergoing revision.
Atlas of Living Australia and the Australian Faunal Directory recognise these Subfamilies under Tiphiidae Family as does NatureMapr (iNaturalist has already moved them across to Thynnidae Family).
