A good looking bolete. Notice the white on the pores. This is the beginning of a Hypomyces infection, a parasitic fungus. Both boletes and Russulas seem to be particularly susceptable to this infection.

Do you or do you know someone with a collecting licence? So that this species could be collected, placed in an herbarium and processed. Too late for this particular specimen but maybe others or maybe next year.

Oh, that's interesting. I don't know anyone, but maybe someone on CNM has a license and can be contacted for future specimens?
