Are the pores red and the flesh yellow or have the yellow pores aged to the reddish colour?
Did you note any colour change in flesh or cap when touched?

Hi @Teresa. Not sure if the pores were originally yellow and have aged to the reddish colour. I didn't note any colour change. Tim

Lovely specimen hoping to describe more of these in the future

Hi @Teresa. You mentioned colour change in the flesh or cap when touched. Is there anything specific that would help you to identify fungi specimens apart from images from several perspectives including images of the pores/gills? Tim

Hi @TimL, it all depends on the species as to which features we look for.
For the Boletes I tend to use Roy Halling's site in the USA, as he some projects in Australia which are very useful to us. I've included the address for you, hope its of some use. Regards, Teresa

@Teresa I've suggested Kgaria as it seems possible bur I am by no means certain - I just know they're being found often in the region at the moment (from groups I moderate).

Hi @Csteele4, and @TimL, I've just read the this paper and the colour changes are very interesting for Kgaria sp; I'll be on the lookout for these on my next outing.

Not Kgaria. Looks similar to one when cut goes a black blue.

Agree with Pam, best to leave this as Boletales; most probably an undiscribed species
Pam wrote:

Boletales doesn't seem to be on the species list.

Great find. Notice at base of fungus a pale dusting of colour. Beginnings of Hypomyces that infect Boletes and Russulas a lot reducing their life span considerablly.

I've collected these for the herbarium and there are some other photos at https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4572375.

Great. Thanks Heino. The only way to get anywhere with identification is to collect and process and hopefully get some DNA results.
