Yes, I've reportred this and related problems but it persists. I as a moth moderator am unable to suggest a species ID because the CNM system does not respond with the suggested name. 6:32 pm AEST 10/2/22021.
The photo only shows pale yellow banding on the abdomen. The photo is very B/W. The translucent areas on the wings of Amata species are usually yellow, but in your photo they are white. Were you using a blue flash? If there were red bands on the abdomen, it may be a Euchromia species.
Hi Donhe, Many thanks for the question and attempting to provide a species level identification. I was just using a standard Canon 430EX III-RT flash. I did notice that the patches on the wings were not a deep yellow but were very pale. I was also surprised by the reflection from the wings, I have not had that before. The colours on this moth looked very similar to those reported at https://canberra.naturemapr.org/sightings/4365886.
Aha : you can see in 4365886 that with incident light normal to the wing, the hyaline areas reflect the white flash, but where the light is incident obliquely, the scattered light is yellow. You say there was red on the abdomen, but I see no red in the photos? Was that a trick of the light too perhaps?
Hi Donhe, Sorry, my mistake, it was more yellow not red. I don't know why I said red, I must have been thinking of something else. Sorry about the confusion but thanks for looking at this moth for me. Cheers, Jon
