Thanks Julia. The yellow/orange spots on the wings are quite distinctive. The closest resemblance I can find is Calopompilus maculipennis, but it is from USA, see: https://bugguide.net/node/view/1451167
They are distinctive... I guess there's a possibility it's not yet been described yet, but it wasn't one of the smaller wasps so that would be less likely too hey?I don't envy your task finding out who it is! It would be very challenging trying to find it again - I think I have quite a diversity of them in my garden but many of them seem passers by.
