Is it a worn Sosineura mimica (Carposinidae) with the photo lighting making it look brown? Another place to look is the long-palped small Erebidae like Unplaced (Trigonistis) asthenopa. The wing pattern in the other record certainly looks very similar, but I wonder if the papli are the same?

I think to non-white head and long palps rule out Sosineura mimica.
I do believe that this (4233147) and 3769057 are the same species, despite slight differences in the colouring and apparent length of the palps. The forewing patterns are too similar.

Yes, I agree re S. mimica, but a long-palped small Eribidae seems likely though no match found yet.

Yes, Sosineura wasn't a good idea, nor any other Carposinidae. I didn't find a likely Nola either. (Trigonistis) asthenopa and Alapadna pauropis both have some characteristcs in common with this one, but don't look right overall. The palpi on this specimen seem to have short upturned tips, which suggest we're on the right track with the small Erebidae. I'm still not convinced 3769057 is the same species - the two specimens seem to have quite different forewing outer margins, and my eye says the palpi of ...057 kink down like a crambid. But I may be deceived about the latter.

Not much chance of catching one now, because this was a lately posted historical record originally observed in November 2018. But I'll keep an eye out for one later in the year and catch one if I can.

Using iNaturalist's pattern recognition feature for new sightings, I'm now confident this is a moth in the Carposinidae family (fruit worms). The most likely candidate species I think is Carposina latebrosa (i.e doesn't look good match to the set specimens on LBH), but does look close to the live specimens of this species visible on the ALA ( i.e the palps show a black tip which is visible in this specimen). Records show C. latebrosa has been recorded in Tas, NSW , ACT and Victoria. The Carposina genus seem to occur mostly in WA, but there are some species with eastern and southern Australian distributions. C telesia is another possibility (WA, Vic and the ACT) but the photos on the ALA do not show the palps having a black tip.

4233147 and 3769057 aren't Carposina latebrosa. Although the seem to match one of the Inat records under that species, they do not match the type photo or ANIC set specimens (see on BOLD). I've looked across Carposinidae, Nolidae and Hypenodinae and believe they are Carposinidae but cannot match them to a species.
