I can't be sure about the species. It does look like a leafcutter, but for some reason it looked smaller than M. maculariformis and that species seldom has the hair on the face as white as in the photo. When newly emerged the hair is bright orange, and although it can fade, there is usually a trace of colour left. Have you thought about M. serricauda?

Hi Michael thanks for the comment, I really have no idea what the species is, except that I thought it was a a leaf cutter bee. I looked at the images on Canberra nature and took the ID from one of the photos.
