I think this is H. leucosticta, which has fewer and larger dorsal spots which are creamy (rather than white) in colour.

Thanks Kim, I got the two mixed up even though they are clearly distinguished in my Book. I assume that Hoshihanimona has precedence over Mordella, in which case some listings will need updating..

I thought this beetle was the same as the one I found in my garden - sighting 3344856, but can see that it has different markings and is a bit different in shape. My previous sighting was identified as Mordella dumbrelli - should this be changed to H. dumbrelli? The 2 pictures in the book are very helpful.

Mordella and Hashihananomia are both treated as valid genera in the Australian Faunal Directory, which is the authority I've followed. I don't know what separates them - there is nothing obvious to me.
