Stephen Skinner of the NSW Royal Botanic Gardens replied when I asked him to ID this species Much easier this time: Stigeoclonium species, and as the main axes are wider than the side branches, it probably fits S. helveticum. There is a paper on these in Australia in Telopea; Skinner, S. & Entwisle, T.J. (2004 a) Non-Marine Algae of Australia 5. Macroscopic Chaetophoraceae (Chaetophorales, Chlorophyta). Telopea 10: 613-633.
Well done to the photographer.
