I removed the net and reported it to the local ranger. I have previously removed other nets but this is the first of this style.

Please report these illegal nets to Access Canberra. The information gets passed on to our Fisheries Enforcement Officer who follows up on these and keeps and eye on these areas.

Id agree. The only other option would be a juvenile clam shrimp Conchostraca, but the shape and size looks like an ostracod

Its probably being used by a rakali. Though they usually use a flat area near the creek as a table and live in the hole.

The ones needed are the outer mill structures (Zt) shown in the figure and in Figure 2. Not the parrot beak structure in the middle.
They are located in the front third of the carapace but are not the external mandibles. Usually in a long dead specimen they are packed with dried vegetable matter that is their food.
