Naturemaprs crucial to effective regional weed control (pat yourself on the back for the good work done).

Since 2014 Canberra Naturemaprs have recorded 13,343 weed sightings of 624 different species within the ACT. Remarkably for 126 species it has been the first record of the species being a weed in the ACT. Twenty-two of these new species have a high to extreme weed risk and early reporting has enabled eradication  1,497 of the sightings have been of high risk weeds at previously unknown locations. 411 of the new locations have been in a conservation reserves.  Your reporting is directing and prioritising weed management.

More details in the next newsletter but you are doing an incredible job. Thank you and please keep it up.

Great work by all involved - those taking the time to upload sightings and @AaronClausen and crew for providing NatureMapr.

Yes, I agree NatureMapr is good for recording weeds but no one who is paid to look after the Reserves do anything about removing them. Over the last 12 months I have sent emails and photos to the environment minister and the Conservator of Flora and Fauna, and the weeds have remained untouched. Many have been on Farrer Ridge for 10 years or more. Including weeds that must be suppressed or contained under Pest Plants and Animals Declaration.

Julie - there is a prioritisation re weed control and high risk weeds have been actively controlled when reported on Naturemapr. Not sure of the Farrer Ridge situation but weeds of lower risk are still given priority for control in areas of high environmental significance.

Keep making the data visible @julielindner - all decision making is becoming 100% data driven. The more sightings and records uploaded, the more visible they become and the more chance they have of being prioritised and having possible resources allocated.

Hi Julie, what are the nasty weeds that you have on Farrer Ridge, the ones you are talking about?
