This is a dragonfly larva. If it came out of the water onto the lilypad, it was probably about to produce an adult. I'm suggesting family Libellulidae, hoping an expert will chime in.

I thought it looked a bit like a larger version of dragonfly nymphs that I have seen increeks, especially around the head
