Chrysalis case was 65mm long

I agree that Abantiades atripalpis is the only species with a pupa this long.
Was it poking out of a hole, or was a hole near it?

No, it was in the middle of the drive. But it was a really windy day and may have blown out of the garden ( which is dry sclerophyll bush)

It's not A. atripalpis time of year, and some other Hepialidae, eg A. labyrinthicus females, can be very large.
