Were the backs of the leaves hairy ( subsp. lasioplylla) or not (subsp. spinosa)? With planted stuff it could be either.

I have added a photo of the leaves. They do not look to be particularly hairy, but it all depends if they are fine short hairs or longer ones. I can check them next week.
