Common Tiger Snake is one two species of tiger snake found in Australia, but there is great variation in size and colour between different populations. They often have bands like a tiger (bands go around the snake while stripes run along the body). Common Tiger Snakes around Lake George tend to have a dark greenish-black back with vivid yellow or orange belly and bands, while those in the southern Monaro have a much lighter grey back with paler yellow belly and stripes. Common Tiger Snake may grow up to 1.2m but larger snakes have been reported.
Distribution: Relatively common throughout region.
