Adding this comment for information. These moths invaded the wool carpet in every room in my house. The information says if wool carpet has been wet, but I do not think it is restricted to this, from my experience. I have had to pull up all of the carpet in my house. From speaking to a number of other people, everyone of them who has wool carpet has had the same experience, and has had to remove all of their carpet. Others who did not have wool carpet have usually reported damaged woollen clothing. So far this spring I have not seen any of these moths, as not much wool anything left in my house. I wonder if they are still around elsewhere. I think we had forgotten the habits of our parents and grandparents to use mothballs and other deterrents, and the past few years has seen a "plague" of these destructive moths.

I certainly have destructive moths in old stored woollen pullovers, jumpers etc. unknown soecies. But no known problems in my carpet yet.

Is that a pure wool carpet Ian? If so you are very lucky!

The holes in our wool clothing seems to be caused by larvae of the beetle Anthrenus verbasci.

Yes. my green carpet is a wool carpet.

Cath, that is very interesting, I wonder if my friends with holes in their wool jumpers (and Ian) have the beetle rather than the moth. Certainly the people whose carpets have been eaten have seen the moths, and now Ian is the first person I know of (granted that is not a huge number) who has wool carpet which has not been affected by the moths.
