Growing a few metres above dry creek bank among blackberries and stinging nettles in an area subject to a prescribed burn in the past 12 months

The only other possibility is B. minus,. The length and orientation of the inner-most pinnae are absolutely diagnostic of B. cartilagineum, and not clear in the photos, but I think the ID is good

You can also find B. cartilagineum (locally common) on the lower reaches of Oakey Creek at the Northern end of the Tidbinbilla Range. Or at least that was true around 1980. There was a well established colony as I recall, along with Pteris tremula, among the open woodland near the creek. There was also a single plant growing in a gully under a fallen tree, on the northern end of the Black Mountain bushland, less than 100 melters south of Belconnen Way. I have not been back to either place.
