Sorry Mike can't be sure which one it is. Was the flowering spike less than 2cm in diameter?

This Typha flower spike is about 18mm and leaves about 15mm width.

Given the size of the flower and leaves this is most likely Typha domingensis - Narrow-leaved cumbungi, which has a flowering spike usually <20mm and a leaf width also <20mm, while Typha orientalis has leaves to 30mm and flowering spikes 10 -40mm wide.
