Lepista nuda (Wood Blewit)

The fruit body is a mushroom that  grows on soil. The caps are smooth, dry, up to 15 centimetres in diameter and initially rounded but with age they may flatten out or even have slightly upturned margins. When young the cap is lilac but becomes brownish with age. The gills and stem are of a colour similar to that of the cap.

The spore print is white.

At first glance, this species may be confused with species of Cortinarius (e.g. the Cortinarius archeri group: https://canberra.naturemapr.org/species/3452). However, species of Cortinarius give a rusty brown spore print and have a cortina (explained here: https://canberra.naturemapr.org/species/3462 ), whereas there is no veil of any sort in Lepista nuda.

Lepista nuda is listed in the following regions:

Canberra & Southern Tablelands  |  South Coast
