Kurrajong, is a small to medium-sized tree found naturally in a diversity of habitats from wetter coastal districts to semi-arid interiors of Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. Two subsp. are accepted; subsp. populneus and subsp. triloba. The former is most common on the tablelands and slopes extending to the coast, whilst the latter occurs solely in the arid interior of QLD and NSW. Subsp. triloba has deeply divided 3-lobed adult leaves whilst subsp. populneus has shallowly divided or entire leaves.
