Intrigued by what would eat this yabby and leave the claw, given it was found on the edge of a dam?

Oh, thank you, that makes sense - there is a little pies cormorant here. I just couldn’t imagine them snapping off the claws - I assumed they swallowed the yabby whole.

or a rakali. There appears to be the gastrolith of the crayfish, the white circles in the second picture. these are located in the body of the crayfish.

Yes particularly when the crayfish shed. The montane euastacus crayfish species suffer heavily from fox predation after bushfires.
