In grassy woodland; manually removed 48 small Privetts growing in an area of approx 2square meters under canopy of large Acacia floribunda. Also growing there were Nandina domestica, English Ivy, Japanese Honeysuckle and Asparagus. Mapped with Field Maps Treated Weeds. Each year I remove large numbers of above plus young Acacia floribunda. Reason for invasion: dense canopy provide perching sites, major drainage line, in direct line to the west and on private property abutting nature reserve, the largest Privetts I ever saw feeding many Currawongs around that time of the year.
The timeline and nearby sightings show the effort required to care for our nature reserves. Is the Cullen tenax (2013) still present or has it been overwhelmed by the invasive plants?
Mike, the time line takes only into account what I recorded on CNM which is only recently and only when I had my camera with me. I'm interested to see how species composition (many weeds favored by last seasons wet condition and canopy protection) will change; I began to tackle the large Acacia floribunda last year. I expect a rush of A. floribunda seedlings where the dense canopy disappears but probably less privett and co due to less attractive perching sites. Unfortunately last 3 La Ninas pushed aggressive phalaris and paspalum which are spreading. I didn't check whether the Cullen coped with this massive competition.
