Was almost six inches long and almost an inch in diameter. It backed out of the hole and went back in about 12 times while we watched.

For food for a Cossid, try giving it a carrot to bore into. There are published photos of only 7% Aussie moth species. Most caterpillars you find have to be reared to the adult if you want to know it's species.
