Probably, but offhand I do not know any with hairs longer than the body. Maybe early instars of Orgyia anartoides ? Any sign of 4 equal tufts amongst the hairs?
@donhe no tufts along the "spine" like O anartoides. The darker hairs are slightly grouped around the head end but like a necklace rather than down the back. The skin would have shrunk a bit when it dried out so maybe the hairs are closer to equal the length of the caterpillar rather than longer? It's all guesses from me!!
@donhe yes they were all within a few meters of each other. I hadn't thought of anestia because I it isn't coloured, but the colour of the actual hairs looks close.
