User's notes

This bee was stuck inside our house. I think it is M leucopyga because of the orange bands on abdomen and red legs

What were the features that put this bee into Lasioglossum?

The hairs that carry pollen are on the hind legs, not under the abdomen; the orange bands are on the front end of the abdominal segments not the rear edge and the abdomen is slightly more leaf shaped than cylindrical (as it would be in Megachile). None of these things are easy to see but they are there if we look closely. After we are sure that it is not Megachile, then the only bee with orange bands and red legs is L. bicingulatum so, for once, colour is helpful.
