User's notes

Such a privilege observing gang gangs throughout the year, but particularly as they fledge. The young female has been on the edge of fledging for a couple of days, apparently. These photos illustrate dad trying to encourage her out of the hollow. Mum and dad have been around the hollow, softly calling, then gliding watchfully to a tree nearby. The young one rocks back and forwards on the edge of the hollow - nearly, nearly. No. Dad flies over to the tree, and the girl cranes her neck, begging. Dad slowly moves down to the hollow and rests tantalisingly on a stick near the hungry youngster. But he turns his back and makes his way back up the stick, softly calling (my human interpretation is 'you can do it, you can do it - then I'll feed you'). The youngster is not quite ready, and it's getting late in the day. Dad moves back down and feeds his daughter, before retiring to a nearby tree. Later, he tries encouraging the young male, but will not feed him. Mum moves in, feeds the boy, and down into the hollow for the night.
