Wheel ruts were made months ago and have now eroded to 30cm wide by 40 cm deep in parts. Thousands of little tadpoles will die if the ruts dry out because they won't be able to get to the creek.

Hi Mike the circle of life and a risk the frogs are willing to take. many species prefer small waterbodies incl puddles as the water heats up faster in there than in a big pond. Anyway, they will become yummie food for other animals. There are not many experts that can id tadpoles, I wish I could- still waiting for a course with Marian Anstis.

Crinia signifera are currently calling on Isaacs Ridge in mid-winter where I didn't know of any free water.

yepp crinia signifera and Lit verreauxii are our local winter breeders, with the latter more commonly heard in the west Belconnen area than in the south.
