3 male Gang Gangs fly into Eucalyptus polyanthemos at 4.20pm. One male checks out what looks like a small hollow in a southside fork of main trunk. Only tail feathers visible on entry. Males move around branches with some low key vocalising. Female bird flies from the east and lands in tree. Two males leave the tree to land in nearby dead tree. One male remains - female moves close but not next to him. Female then flies to the fork in the tree that this male had checked out. She also checks out then flies back on another branch. Louder vocalising then the male and female fly towards the east and the other males in the tree follow about 4.45pm.
This is a possible nesting site - have not noticed in use in previous years. Many more Gang Gangs on property checking out nesting sites this year. Previously pairs of males and females checked out sites together. In 2022 more males appear to be checking the sites - perhaps - as in this case - followed by a female Breeding has occurred in previous years but storm damage has destroyed 2 previous sites.
While this tree has been repeat visited by Gang Gangs this year it is unknown if this nest site checking behaviour has occured here.
