I referred (as suggested on the wolf spider page) to the web site at http://www.lycosidae.info/identification/australia/ to try to identify this spider. From this web site, I believe the patterns on the back of the spider correspond with a male Lycosa musgravei
This is obviously a very late comment (we're going through old records as part of a NatureMapr clean-up this week)! But with Lycosidae, the pattern can be a bit misleading. Some genera do have obvious patterns that distinguish them, but others may appear to be one thing but are actually something else. I agree that this is a Tasmanicosa sp. but to get to a species level, it's often necessary to view the genitalia under a microscope.
