There appear to be some remnants of parts of the outer layer of the fruit body sitting atop a soggy spore mass. The apparent arms are the thick skin of the fruit body that has split and folded outward exposing the naked spore mass. In Geastrum species the spores are contained in a sac and released through a mouth at the apex.
