These are now grieving gang gangs, I believe (site 81). This pair had been industriously incubating their eggs, changing over morning and night for the past week or so. Then it rained on Sunday night (we measured 30mm). On Monday night, around 7.30pm, I notice the female outside the hollow, busily chewing the bark, flying to perch inside the hollow, outside the hollow, but not entering - for over 30 minutes. (previously, the birds would not leave the nest for more than, literally, 2 minutes). Later in the night there was no bird, but a very big possum resting on a branch up from the hollow. There was no sight of the birds on Tuesday, but this morning as I happened to walk by, I heard the female talking. She was on a branch outside the hollow, then the male appeared and they both flew off. :( :(
