Previous sighting (https://canberra.naturemapr.org/Community/Sightings/Details/4234646) showed old discarded cases. At the time the live caterpillars were too small to photograph but they are now quite a bit larger. The estimate of 200 is probably an under-estimate as they are covering all the small-leafed grevilleas in this area. Hundreds more discarded cases. Managed to entice one caterpillar out of its case.
The only Psychids that I know that have sparsely decorated cases are Trigonocyttara clandestina and Metura elongatus. The cases that I know of these were both decorated with stick, rather than bits of leaf as in this specimen. You will need to take one into protective custody and rear it to the adult moth to get an ID.
Thanks Don, I've brought a couple home but finding the right plants to feed them might pose a problem as I don''t drive so making the trek back out to Gungahlin for new fodder may be a problem. I'll see how I go.
