I observed the male in photos 1 and 2 in the morning at this hollow - is he young? There was a pair of wood ducks nearby, and when this one went to enter the hollow, he came straight out and I thought I heard hissing (duck). Then the pair sat by the hollow during the day - but I think they inspected two other hollows?
I asked chris Davey about the head feathers he said "I have often seen birds in this condition I would say mites but I would like to get the views of a vet."
Don’t be surprised if the hissing is another parrot of some sort. They hiss when cranky or defending a nest. Our cockatiels do it to us ALL the time. :)
Thank you! At the moment, this is a hotly contested hollow between gang gangs, wood ducks, and yesterday I saw a pair of king parrots there for the first time.
