The surface of the cap doesn't look right. I've seen a number of ochrophylloides/ochrophylla group like Amanita this season that I haven't been able to place. This is the second time I've seen this particular one with those very distinctive velar remains on the surface of the pileus that look like bands of thick fibres that have glugged down over the cap!! Would be interested if you come up with a name.
What a difference an image from an another angle makes! The unusual cap surface is, in my opinion, a result of the fungus drying out and the surface contracting. So as it appears to have ochra/apricot gills, a single annulus and no major warts................I agree with your original A. ochrophylloides (with a ratty stipe) Heino!! Thanks for helping clear that up Rob with the additional image. It has also helped me have a better chance at interpreting other images I'm seeing - we live and learn.
Now that's a great idea Aaron, you tell me!! I could sound some people out that would be good partners about how they'd feel about it. Unfortunately I'm snowed under to the point of drowning for at least the next twelve months. If you have contacts up this way you want to chat to and keep me in the loop..................
