User's notes

I took some caterpillars home and they emerged as photos 2 & 3 (four beetles). I released them back where I collected them (photo 4). Also found four more beetles with stronger colouring. At first I didn't see any other beetles on the tree and only noticed them after I had released my beetles. They were then quite active and one studiously made its way over and inspected two of the released beetles, climbing onto them then moving on. A male looking for females? Amazing that it could sense new arrivals from a distances of about two feet.

Good to get that association of the larvae with the adults, Alison.
